A Journey Fulfilled: Heineken Cares' Kampung Nagarai Tuguson Gravity Water Project

Hopes Malaysia’s Heineken Cares 2024 CSR Partnership reached a milestone with the completion of the Kampung Nagarai Tuguson Sustainable Gravity Water Project on Monday, 20th August 2025. Villagers joined Hopes Malaysia’s team during a small closing event to celebrate this life-changing achievement.

Before the Project: Struggling for Water Daily

Prior to the initiative, the community lacked the essential infrastructure to store and manage water for daily needs. During peak usage hours or hot weather, families competed for limited water from their direct household connections, leaving many without enough for drinking, cooking, or sanitation.

Transforming Water Access Through CSR Collaboration

With generous support from Heineken Malaysia, SPARKS Foundation, and Sokong, Hopes Malaysia started working with the Kampung Nagarai Tuguson community in December 2024. The team replaced old, damaged pipes and upgraded the system with a centralized HDPE water tank and new polypiping.

These enhancements strengthened the water catchment, improved storage capacity, and increased water pressure, ensuring clean, reliable water reaches every household. Today, 210 villagers from 41 B40 families enjoy uninterrupted access to safe water—ending years of water insecurity.


Celebrating Community Empowerment

To mark the project, villagers proudly placed an appreciation sticker on the new HDPE sanitary tank, recognizing the life-changing contributions of the CSR supporters. The village representative also demonstrated the improved system by opening a tap at his home, revealing strong, consistent water flow.


Beyond Clean Water: Sustainable Livelihoods and Long-term Impact

This sustainable gravity water system doesn’t just provide consistent clean water; it creates opportunities for rural families to improve livelihoods, grow food sustainably, and move toward long-term self-sufficiency.
