10 Years of Transforming Rural Communities in Sabah

Through clean water, sustainable livelihoods, safer access, and women empowerment — we build long-term change that lasts.

For many communities in Sabah, this is still everyday life

  • Limited or no access to reliable clean water

  • Unsafe bridges used daily by children and families

  • Low and unstable household income

  • Few income opportunities, especially for women

Sabah has one of the highest poverty rates in Malaysia — with over 254,000 people living in poverty, many of them in rural and remote areas.

These challenges are deeply connected.
And real, lasting change means solving them together.

Our Approach To Long Term Impact

Our approach focuses on four key areas that work together to create sustainable, long-term impact in rural communities.

Gravity Water Access

Many rural communities in Sabah still lack access to public water systems, forcing families to rely on nearby streams and rivers that are often inconsistent and insufficient for growing populations.

We build gravity-fed water systems that provide a reliable, long-term supply of clean water — bringing it directly to homes across the village.

Each project is carried out together with the community through gotong-royong, ensuring ownership and long-term sustainability.

✔ 10+ years of implementation
✔ 200km+ pipelines installed
✔ Community-led maintenance model

Sustainable Farming and Enhanced Socioeconomic

With access to clean water, families can begin growing their own food, reducing daily costs and relying less on external supplies.

We support communities with hands-on training, tools, and guidance to grow both short-term and long-term crops, alongside small-scale fish farming.

Over time, families not only meet their own needs, but also sell surplus produce to generate additional income.

✔ Builds food security & self-sufficiency
✔ Reduces daily living costs
✔ Creates a pathway to sustainable income

Bridge Repair For Safer Access

In many rural communities, bridges are part of everyday life — used by children going to school, farmers heading to work, and families moving between villages.

Over time, these bridges deteriorate due to harsh weather and constant use, becoming unsafe and dangerous.

We repair and rebuild critical bridges using stronger, more durable materials — ensuring safer, more reliable access for the entire community.

✔ Focus on high-usage, critical bridges
✔ Built with more durable materials
✔ Community-led repair through gotong-royong

Women Empowerment Through Craft

We equip women in rural communities with practical craft-making skills that open up real income opportunities.

Through structured training, mentorship, and continuous support, participants create products using locally available and upcycled materials, turning skills into a sustainable source of income.

Beyond income, this builds confidence, independence, and long-term livelihood opportunities for women and their families.

✔ Builds sustainable income opportunities
✔ Strengthens confidence & independence
✔ Supported by training, mentorship & ongoing guidance
