When you think of travel in Borneo, images of lush rainforests, Mount Kinabalu, and exotic wildlife often come to mind. But tucked away in the hills of Kampung Sayap, Sabah, are stories that don’t always make it to glossy brochures — stories of rural families striving for a better future, and local youth like Ezra, who dream of bringing change to their village.

This is where you come in.
Through our Charity & CSR Expedition in Sabah Borneo, you’re not just a visitor. You’re a changemaker, helping real people in real ways.
Meet Ezra — A Guide with a Mission
Ezra grew up in Kampung Sayap, a quiet village surrounded by forests and rivers. Like many rural youths, he faced limited opportunities. Jobs were scarce, and most young people either left for the city or stayed behind helping in small farms, uncertain about their future.
“I used to wonder if anyone knew we existed,” Ezra admits. “There were days I felt like there’s no way to move forward, like this kampung life is stuck.”
But Ezra chose a different path. He became a guide, sharing the beauty of his homeland with the few visitors who found their way here. Every trek, every shared meal with guests, was his way of putting Kampung Sayap on the map.

Yet, the journey hasn’t been easy.
“Sometimes, we waited months for just one visitor. We want to do more, to give back to the community, but we don’t have many chances,” Ezra shares.
A New Beginning: The Sabah Borneo Charity & CSR Expedition
To address these challenges, we’re launching the Kampung Sayap Charity & CSR Expedition — a new initiative by Hopes Malaysia designed to support local guides, farmers, and families through eco-tourism in Sabah.
Every booking you make is a direct investment into this village’s future.
How Your Visit Makes a Real Impact
Here’s how your expedition to Sabah Borneo changes lives:
1) Boosts Rural Livelihoods
Your stay supports local families, from hosts and home cooks to guides like Ezra, allowing them to earn a living without leaving their kampung.
2) Supports Village Education
A portion of your trip funds school outings, provides learning materials, and helps rural children experience life beyond their village.
3) Helps Families in Need
Your contribution provides essential items like food, hygiene kits, and school supplies to extreme poor families struggling with daily necessities.
4) Builds Long-Term Resilience
You’re backing Hopes Malaysia’s mission to build self-sufficient, sustainable communities through grassroots projects that empower locals to create their own opportunities.
Challenges Faced by Local Guides in Sabah Borneo
For guides like Ezra, being a local tour guide isn’t just a job — it’s a responsibility. He dreams of turning Kampung Sayap into a hub for community-based tourism in Malaysia. But without consistent visitors, sustaining this dream is a challenge.
“We want to show people our way of life — how we live with nature, how we take care of our land. But we need support to keep it going,” Ezra explains.
The charity expedition provides a stable source of income while giving guides a platform to share their culture and skills.

You’re Not Just Booking a Trip — You’re Joining Their Story
When you join this charity & CSR expedition in Sabah, you’re not just ticking off an adventure. You’re becoming part of a community’s journey toward a better future.
